When Leonard McDermott died this past year, his family chose to contribute $20,000 to The Working Centre. They requested that this donation be invested and that The Working Centre contribute the interest from the investment to Working Centre projects.
The Working Centre sought an ethical investment option, and became members of the Canadian Alternative Investment Cooperative (CAIC). CAIC has been supporting positive social change and promoting alternative economic structures for over 30 years by investing in projects that are “supportive of worker cooperatives, disadvantaged peoples and the environment.”
CAIC has helped to finance mortgages for The Working Centre in the past, including our buildings at 97 Victoria Street South and 43 Queen Street South.
