In Memoriam

The Working Centre is honoured to be remembered in a number of wills and in-memoriam donations. 
These contributions allow us to build on some exciting new projects, as a way to keep our work innovative and adaptive to the changing needs of the people we serve.  Bequests and in memoriam contributions this year have included donations from:

Madeline Cullen
Madeline passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the age of 98.  Madeline was a faithful member of St. Anthony Daniel RC Church.  She had a great devotion for the Blessed Mother and St.Teresa, The Little Flower.  Her family requested that donations come to The Working Centre.

Leo Burns
Leo Burns passed away on Saturday, Febuary 2, 2013 at the age of 81.  Donations in his memory were directed to St. John’s Kitchen.
 
Waltraud Anton
Waltraud lived from September 11, 1924 to December 20, 2011.  Her estate was settled in the past year and included a generous donation to The Working Centre.

Orville Thacker
Orville was an active member is his community for over 60 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 50) for over 50 years. He held every office in Local 677 of the United Rubber Workers Union. He was the President of the Kitchener-Waterloo and District Labour Council for eight years and was also a long standing member of its executive committee. Orville was a long standing member and continued to serve on the Executive Council of the Ontario Federation of Labour. He also served for 10 years on the Board of the Central Ontario Exhibition, including 2 years as President. Orville served nine years on K-W Hospital Commission as well as many other municipal committees over that period.

Orville was politically active, focusing attention on social issues affecting Canadian families. He attended the Labor College of Canada (Class of 1975) and took many courses through the Canadian Labour Congress and other labour bodies. Orville served as President of Waterloo Regional Council of Union Retirees for the past 15 years, which made him an ex officio member of the Waterloo Regional Labour Council Executive throughout those years and currently. He was President of the Ontario Federation of Union Retirees for the last 7 years and served on the executive committee for the past 15 years. He was a member of Ontario Health Coalition and Co-Chair of K-W Regional Health Coalition. He attended many labour conventions including many Provincial and Federal NDP conventions as both a member and delegate. Orville served on local NDP executive committee since the party was formed and managed campaigns for local candidates for municipal, provincial, and federal office.
